Welcome to the Konovalova Lab

The outer membrane (OM) of Gram-negative bacteria is an essential organelle and a major factor of intrinsic antibiotic resistance.  Accordingly, multiple government agencies and non-governmental organizations recognize that an improved understanding of bacterial OM biogenesis and homeostasis is the first and major step in the scientific roadmap for antibiotic discovery.

In our lab, we study how bacteria build and maintain the integrity of the OM during antibiotic challenges. We use an interdisciplinary approach, including innovative genetics screens, in vivo and in vitro biochemistry, and structural mass spectrometry.

Our research interest lies in two major areas

Envelope stress responses

Surface-exposed lipoproteins
